Job summary

California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) is seeking a tenured/tenure-track faculty member in Dance to teach and develop courses in Latinx/e and Afro-Latinx/e dance forms, and related praxis/theory/production. The role includes advising, choreographing for department concerts, and mentoring students.

The ideal candidate will have MFA/PhD or MA in Dance with professional experience in Latinx/e dance, and a commitment to inclusive teaching for a diverse student population.

Qualifications

• MFA or PhD in Dance, Performance Studies, or a related field with a Dance-based creative/research profile.
• MA in Dance or related field with professional performance and/or choreographic experience in Latinx/e and/or Afro-Latinx/e dance forms
• Professional performance and/or choreographic experience in Latinx/e and/or Afro-Latinx/e dance forms at regional, national, and/or international level
• Demonstrated ability to teach one or more Latinx/e and/or Afro-Latinx/e dance forms
• Qualification(s) to teach modern/contemporary, jazz, African, street dance, and/or ballet in technical praxis
• Demonstrated commitment to working with a diverse student population

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Latinx/e and/or Afro-Latinx/e dance forms and other areas of praxis/theory/production; mode may include in-person, hybrid, online, or any combination. Technical praxis courses include modern/contemporary, jazz, African, street dance, and ballet
• May be assigned to teach other department courses appropriate to training and expertise
• Assist with development of curriculum in area(s) of expertise
• Advise/mentor part-time faculty within the area(s) of expertise
• Choreograph for department concerts; direct department concerts and/or events
• Participate in student recruitment and mentor graduate candidates and undergraduate dance majors/minors; supervise theses where appropriate
• Produce creative/scholarly work commensurate with tenure requirements and contribute to department, college, and university through service
• Participate in service to the department, college, university, and field/community

Skills

Fluency in Spanish and English

Education

MFA or PhD in Dance

MA in Dance or related field

Professional performance and/or choreographic experience in Latinx/e and Afro-Latinx/e forms

Ability to teach Latinx/e and Afro-Latinx/e dance forms

Teach technical praxis courses: modern/contemporary, jazz, African, street dance, ballet

Commitment to working with diverse student populations
