Job summary

The YMCA of Central New York is seeking a Dance Instructor to develop and teach dance lessons in the Arts Studio. Under the Arts Studio Director, you will plan classes, manage schedules, and foster a safe, creative environment for students.

Qualifications include a relevant art degree, prior experience with students in dance education, and strong communication. You will collaborate with other instructors to plan recitals and promote the Y-Arts program.

Qualifications

• Must have a college degree related to the position's art field.
• Prior experience working directly with students in a dance education related environment.
• Possess and demonstrate excellent organizational, verbal and written communication, interpersonal, decision-making, problem solving and leadership skills.
• Possess the ability to work both within a team and independently.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement dancing lessons that increase the knowledge of art principles and expand student interest in dance.
• Create a safe and trusting creative environment in the Dance Studio.
• Ensure the safety of all students.
• Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the Dance Studio with a team effort.
• Communicate respectfully and clearly to students and parents.
• Reinforce positive behaviors and creative strides.
• Handle disruptive behaviors.
• Promote the Y-Arts program at the YMCA and in the community.
• Collaborate with other instructors to plan and lead 2 recitals per year.
