Job summary

South Asian Youth Action (SAYA) is seeking a Dance Activity Specialist for a part-time middle school program in Elmhurst, Queens. The role involves planning inclusive dance lessons across styles (Hip-Hop, Ballet, Modern, etc.) and fostering creativity, confidence, and teamwork among students.

The position runs during the school year with in-person engagement, offering a flexible schedule of 2–5 days per week and a competitive hourly pay range.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching dance to middle school students in school, camp, or community settings.
• Minimum of 2 years of academic preparation in dance or creative movement.
• Ability to collaborate and manage multiple priorities.
• Experience providing individualized and group instruction for youth with varying skill levels.
• Knowledge of teaching dance styles including Hip-Hop, African, Latin, Jazz, Modern, Ballet, and Lyrical.

Responsibilities

• Supervise activities to ensure health, safety and well-being of participants.
• Plan and facilitate lessons introducing multiple dance styles.
• Create a culturally responsive environment reflecting diverse backgrounds.
• Culminate with student showcases or performances.
• Maintain a positive learning environment and classroom management.
• Build positive relationships with youth and adults and model professional demeanor.
• Report maintenance needs and organize spaces and materials.
