Job summary

South Asian Youth Action (SAYA) is seeking a Coding Activity Specialist for the Middle School program in South Ozone Park. This part-time, in-person role in Elmhurst, NY, offers a school-year schedule with 2–5 days per week and a competitive hourly rate.

The Activity Specialist will teach computer science concepts to middle schoolers, design engaging curricula, and support social-emotional learning through technology education.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or current college students preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 2 years of academic programming preparation or equivalent training.
• Knowledge of youth development, after-school programming and public education.
• Experience designing and teaching courses to support youth success.
• Knowledge of Scratch programming, electrical circuitry or Arduino is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Supervise activities to ensure health, safety and well-being of participants.
• Develop age-appropriate programming lesson plans and SEL-focused themes.
• Facilitate engaging activities that build new skills in youth.
• Maintain a positive classroom environment and manage group dynamics.
• Build positive relationships with youth and adults and model professional conduct.
• Complete program reports including supply requests, lesson plans and attendance.
• Assist Program Coordinator with ordering and maintaining equipment.
• Participate in training sessions, meetings and special events.
