Job summary

SAM is seeking a Damage Prevention Field Technician to protect underground infrastructure and promote safe excavation practices in the Akron, OH area. You will apply locating expertise to prevent utility damage and support public safety on active construction sites.

You will collaborate with homeowners, contractors, and utility crews, documenting locate activities and ensuring compliance with safety standards. A high school diploma and prior utility experience are required.

Qualifications

• Must have prior utility experience and knowledge of damage prevention practices.
• Ability to read and interpret utility maps, prints, and records.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills required.
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet MVR standards.

Responsibilities

• Visit active job sites to monitor excavation activities and ensure safe digging practices.
• Identify and mark underground utilities using industry-standard equipment.
• Verify accuracy of utility markings and handle remark requests as needed.
• Investigate conflicts and damage-prevention concerns in the field.
• Collaborate with homeowners, contractors, and utility crews to promote safety.
• Maintain records of locate activities, site visits, and field observations.
• Conduct QA checks to ensure compliance with requirements.
• Respond to emergency locate requests and time-sensitive field situations.
• Maintain locating equipment and company vehicle in good condition.
• Work with team to improve safety, accuracy, and efficiency.
