Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a field technician in the Miami area to analyze blueprints, locate and map fiber optic cables and underground utilities, and document site information in company software.

You will communicate with clients and engineers, use GPS and surveying tools, and ensure network integrity while handling on-call duties and travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Must live within 30 minutes of the Miami metro area.
  • Minimum of two years of utility locating and fiber optic builds experience.
  • Telecom training preferred.
  • Minimum two years of field construction experience.
  • Basic understanding of underground installation practices.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with computers, cell phones, test equipment, Windows and Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • On-call 24/7 with travel as needed.
  • Valid state driver license with limited moving violations.
  • Ability to follow all safety policies.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze blueprints to determine where construction projects will take place.
  • Identify and map the location and depth of utilities for fiber optic cable and underground utilities.
  • Document interactions, site information, and utilities in organizational software.
  • Communicate with clients, engineers, and management.
  • Use GPS, surveying, and measurement techniques to locate utilities.
  • Proactively identify and solve potential problems to ensure network integrity.
  • Pinpoint line coordinates using GPS or surveying equipment.
  • Manage assets and replenish on-site materials.
  • Coordinate shipping and receiving of company and customer materials.
  • Maintain tools, test sets, and network equipment.
  • Maintain site safety and follow property policies.
  • Inspect cabinets, buried cables, and outdoor facilities in varied environments.
  • Monitor vendor/contractor performance.
  • Operate independently and in team environments.

Job description

Analyze blueprints to determine where construction projects will take place.
Identify and map the location and depth of utilities for fiber optic cable and underground utilities.
Document interactions, site information, and utilities in organizational software.
Communicate with clients, engineers, and management.
Use electrical, magnetic, GPS, blueprint analysis, and/or radar techniques to measure utilities.
Proactively identify and solve potential problem areas to ensure network integrity within established operating procedures.
Pinpoint line coordinates using GPS or surveying equipment.
Manage assets and replenish on-site/truck materials.
Coordinate shipping and receiving of company and customer materials.
Maintain tools, test sets, and network equipment.
Maintain network/site security and cleanliness and follow company property policies.
Inspect cabinets, buried cables, construction sites, and outdoor facilities in varied environments and weather conditions.
Monitor and evaluate vendor/contractor performance.
Operate independently and in team environments, collaborating with other teams to achieve common goals.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Must live within 30 minutes of the Miami, FL metro area.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of previous experience with utility locating and fiber optic cable builds required.
  • Telecom specific training preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in field construction tasks.
  • Basic understanding of underground installation practices.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in using computers, cell phones, test equipment, Microsoft Windows operating systems, and Office applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to operate on-call 24/7/365 on a rotating schedule, including standby, call out, dispatch, and overtime, as required by the business, including some travel, as needed.
  • Ability to maintain eligibility to operate a company issued vehicle per Zayo policy (no more than 2 moving violations within the past 3 years), including possession of a state-issued driver license for the state in which you live.
  • Ability to follow all personal safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to regularly lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds and move them clear of the job site.
