Job summary

Jobtailor in the United States (Miami area) is seeking a Field Utility Locator to map underground utilities, analyze blueprints, and document site data using GPS and surveying tools.

You will work with clients, engineers, and management, operate on-call 24/7/365, and lift up to 100 pounds while maintaining safety, asset management, and on-site inspections.

Qualifications

  • Must live within 30 minutes of the Miami, FL metro area.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Up to one year of relevant experience in utility locating and field construction tasks.
  • Previous experience with utility locating and fiber optic cable builds preferred.
  • Basic understanding of underground installations preferred.
  • Proficiency in using computers, cell phones, test equipment, Microsoft Windows operating system, and Office applications.
  • Operate on-call 24/7/365 on a rotating schedule, including standby, call out, dispatch, and overtime, as required by the business, including some travel, as needed.
  • Ability to maintain eligibility to operate a company-issued vehicle per Zayo policy, including possession of a state-issued driver license for the state in which you live
  • Ability to follow all personal safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to regularly lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds and move them clear of the job site

Responsibilities

  • Analyze blueprints to determine where construction projects will take place
  • Identify and map the location and depth of utilities for fiber optic cable and underground utilities
  • Document interactions, site information, and utilities in organizational software
  • Communicate with clients, engineers, and management
  • Use electrical, magnetic, GPS, blueprint analysis, and/or radar techniques to measure utilities
  • Proactively identify potential problem areas to ensure network integrity within established operating procedures
  • Pinpoint line coordinates using GPS or surveying equipment
  • Manage assets and replenish on-site/truck materials
  • Coordinate shipping and receiving of company and customer materials
  • Maintain tools, test sets, and network equipment
  • Maintain network/site security and cleanliness and follow company-property policies
  • Inspect cabinets, buried cables, construction sites, and other outdoor facilities in varied environments and weather conditions
  • Work independently and in teams, interacting with other teams to achieve goals
  • Perform other duties as assigned
