Job summary

Stake Center Locating is seeking a Damage Investigator to lead investigations of utility damages, identify root causes, and drive preventive actions. You will review evidence, interview stakeholders, and produce comprehensive reports for operations and clients.

The role emphasizes safety, accuracy, and collaboration with field teams to minimize repeat incidents and enhance service quality. Willingness to travel to field sites is required.

Qualifications

• Experience in utility locating, underground utility construction, damage prevention, or related fields preferred.
• Knowledge of underground utilities, locating procedures, excavation practices, and damage prevention principles.
• Strong investigative, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to engage with field personnel, leadership, and clients.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive investigations of utility damages to establish incident circumstances, contributing factors, and root causes.
• Review locate tickets, field notes, photographs, maps, work records, and other evidence.
• Conduct interviews with employees, contractors, and involved parties to gather accurate incident details.
• Prepare thorough, timely, and objective investigation reports documenting findings, evidence, and corrective actions.
• Recognize patterns to identify opportunities for reducing damages and improving locating accuracy.
• Foster a culture of damage prevention, safety, and accountability across field operations.
• Identify gaps in safe work practices, locating procedures, documentation, and compliance with standards.
• Collaborate with Operations to share lessons learned and implement preventive measures.
• Support safety meetings and training focused on damage prevention and best practices.
• Assist in joint reviews of damage trends and action plans to mitigate risks.
