Job summary

GM Performance Power Units in Concord, NC is seeking a Damage Modeler to advance life predictions for our Formula 1 power unit. You will integrate materials science, structural mechanics and telemetry data within the Reliability team to ground predictions in real-world evidence and support race performance.

The role demands hands-on experience with fatigue and damage modeling, FEA tools, and load-spectrum development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Automotive/Aerospace with emphasis on structural mechanics, fatigue or fracture mechanics.
  • 5+ years in a structural integrity, lifing, fatigue, or damage tolerance role, ideally in motorsport.
  • Hands-on experience developing or applying damage models for real hardware under multi-mechanism loading.
  • Experience correlating analytical life predictions with physical test or field failure evidence and improving models accordingly.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, validate, and maintain physics-based damage accumulation models for life-critical PU components.
  • Produce component duty life predictions from first principles using FEA, thermal analyses, and load spectra.
  • Develop load spectra from operational data and integrate into automated data pipelines with reliability data engineers.
