Job summary

Byrne, Inc. in East, NY 13057 seeks a Maintenance Mechanic to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on dairy processing equipment, including pasteurizers, homogenizers, pumps, and packaging lines.

You will diagnose various mechanical and electrical systems and work under lockout/tagout and safety protocols in a food-grade setting. The role requires 2–3 years of mechanical experience, comfort with PLCs and instrumentation, and the ability to maintain detailed CMMS records.

Qualifications

• GED or High School diploma preferred.
• 2-3 years’ experience within the mechanical field.
• Proficiency with VFDs, stretch/blow molding equipment, conveyors, pumps, pneumatic sanitary valves, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems, along with programmable logic controllers and instrumentation/controls.
• Experience maintaining closed cooling systems including evaporator towers,water cooling towers, and industrial chillers used in manufacturingoperations.
• Food manufacturing environment experience preferred, with HVAC experienceconsidered an additional asset for maintaining sanitary processingconditions.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on dairy processing equipmentincluding pasteurizers, homogenizers, separators, pumps, conveyors, andpackaging machinery to minimize downtime and ensure continuous productionoperations.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systemsusing hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment while followinglockout/tagout procedures and safety protocols in a food-grade environment.
• Troubleshoot and resolve equipment malfunctions quickly to restore productionlines, working with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), motor controls,and automated systems common in dairy processing facilities.
• Install, calibrate, and maintain instrumentation and control systemsincluding temperature sensors, pressure gauges, flow meters, and automatedvalves to ensure accurate monitoring of critical processing parameters.
• Conduct routine inspections of facility infrastructure including steamsystems, compressed air lines, refrigeration equipment, and water treatmentsystems, identifying potential issues before they impact production.
• Maintain detailed maintenance records, work orders, and equipment historiesin computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) while coordinating withproduction teams to schedule repairs during planned downtime and minimizedisruption to operations.
