Job summary

The University of Maine in Orono is seeking a full-time farm support worker to assist with livestock operations and general farm duties.

Duties include feeding animals, mowing, equipment operation (dairy robots, tractors, skid steers), repairs, and record-keeping. Requires ability to lift 50 pounds and pass safety training. This position pays $20.39/hour, or applicable transfer rate under the ACSUM collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications

• Typically has the education associated with an associate’s degree in agronomy, animal sciences, or a related field or equivalent work experience and training and sufficient experience, including three years of farm operations experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform farm operations, including animal feeding, general facilities upkeep such as mowing lawns, weed trimming, snow removal, and field cultivation, including planting, tending, and harvesting crops.
• Operate farm equipment such as dairy robotic machines, tractors, skid steers, farm implements, and trucks.
• Assist with equipment and facility repairs and maintenance. Troubleshoot independently.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and students.
• Complete required safety training and maintain detailed records and reports.
