Job Purpose and Impact

The Dairy Animal Care Technician is responsible for executing approved protocols for animal studies safely, accurately, and timely. This includes conducting research trials, collecting data on animal weight, feed information, and samples, as well as milking, feeding, and cleaning up after cows. The role also involves providing standard animal husbandry and housekeeping duties.

Key Accountabilities
  1. Maintain cleanliness and troubleshoot research equipment to ensure proper protocol adherence.
  2. Contribute to ongoing evaluation and improvement of experimental methods and routines.
  3. Ensure safe working conditions according to safety programs and animal welfare standards, complying with animal policies.
  4. Execute predefined protocols and SOPs, including feeding, sample collection, animal observation, disease recognition, data compilation, and quality measurement, on time and within scope.
  5. Handle administrative, technical, or customer support issues with minimal supervision, escalating only complex issues.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma, secondary education, or equivalent.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • At least four years of related work experience.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Availability to work weekends and two holidays per year.
  • Experience working with large animals, especially dairy cattle.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience operating skid steers, tractors, and forklifts.
Position Information
  • This position is located in Elk River, Minnesota.
  • Relocation assistance will not be provided.
  • Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 3 PM, with one weekend per month and two holidays per year.
Compensation
  • Salary range: $50,000 - 55,000 annually.
Benefits
  • Eligible for benefits including paid time off, holidays, medical, vision, dental, flexible spending, life and disability insurance, retirement savings, and EAP, subject to collective bargaining agreements for union positions.

Minnesota Sick and Safe Leave accrues at one hour per 30 hours worked, up to 48 hours per year unless law states otherwise.
