Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a qualified cytotechnologist to independently perform routine and special procedures on patient specimens. The role emphasizes microscopic screening of gynecologic and non-gynecologic slides, specimen preparation, and collaboration with pathologists and clinicians.

The candidate should have a Bachelor\'s degree (ASCP eligible) or equivalent and ASCP certification is preferred. CT (ASCP) and clinical cytotechnologist experience are valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in ASCP eligible program or bachelor's degree with one year certificate.
• CT (ASCP) preferred.
• Clinical cytotechnologist experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Microscopically screen gynecologic and non-gynecologic slides containing cells from all body sites.
• Prepares and processes specimens and assists pathologists, radiologists and clinicians with fine needle aspirates, as needed.
• Operates, calibrates, checks and maintains instrumentation; recognizes QC problems and takes action to ensure quality information.
• Participates in continuing educational programs and assists in training other health care providers.
• Maintains cleanliness of the work area and supplies; completes proficiency testing.
• Selects specimens that must be submitted for pathologist review, quality control and QA.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education
