Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Cytotechnologist to independently perform routine and special procedures on patient specimens within the pathology department. The role involves microscopic screening of gynecologic and non-gynecologic slides across body sites, using imager tech when applicable, and assisting pathologists with specimen processing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in ASCP eligible program or bachelor's degree and one year certificate program trained.
• CT (ASCP) preferred.
• Clinical cytotechnologist experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Microscopically screens gynecologic and non-gynecologic slides containing cells from all body sites. Meets the minimum screening output standard.
• Screens gynecologic slides using imager technology as applicable.
• Prepares and processes specimens and assists pathologists and clinicians with various procedures.
• Maintains and calibrates instrumentation; flag quality issues per guidelines.
• Participates in continuing education and training of staff.
• Maintains cleanliness and supplies; participates in proficiency testing.
• Selects specimens for pathologist review and QA; performs other duties as assigned.
