Job description

City/State: White Plains, New York.

Department: WPH Lab Anatomic Pathology_1.

Work Shift: Day.

Work Days: PER DIEM.

Scheduled Hours: 9 AM-6 PM.

Hours Per Pay Period: 0.

Pay Rate/Range: $40.9171-$61.3755.

Essential Functions

1. Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
2. Screens gynecological and non-gynecological cases daily and in a timely manner.
3. Assists with preparation, staining and cover slipping of cytology specimens as needed.
4. Assists in Cytology intra-operative or intra-procedural assessments scheduled with the Department in Ambulatory Surgery, Operating Room, Breast Imaging, Endoscopy, Off Site, Radiology.
5. Signs out cases with the Pathologist on (according to schedule).
6. Labels all Cytology stained slides, compares name, number of slides, clinical information, and gross description against the Cytology requisitions.
7. Changes and cleans equipment and solutions in the cytology aspiration procedure tray, keeps cytology aspiration procedure supplies stocked as needed.
8. Processes, sends out samples and reports.
9. Maintains all records as per regulatory agencies requirements.
10. Maintains CME log.
11. Participates in any other departmental activities as directed by the Chief Cytotechnologist or Laboratory Director.
12. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• BS required in ASCP Registry and/or Certified Cytology School.
• Minimum 3 years experience screening gynecological, non-gynecological specimens and fine needle aspirations.
• Familiar with Bethesda system for Cytology reporting.
• Preferred: Flexibility, Organized Adaptability, Attention to Detail, Stress Tolerance.
• Must be able to rapidly assess and respond to situational needs of the department.
• Cytotechnologist - New York State Board of Clinical Laboratory Technology upon hire required.
• ASCP - International Medical Laboratory Scientist - AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR CLINICAL PATHOLOGY (ASCP) upon hire required.
• ThinPrep Certification preferred.
