Job description

Cytotechnologist

Full‑time, 40 hours per week. First shift. Location: Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, New York, USA.

Responsibilities
  • Perform microscopic screening of gynecologic, non‑gynecologic, and Fine Needle Aspirate (FNA) slide preparations to detect precancerous and cancerous conditions.
  • Assist and evaluate the adequacy of Fine Needle Aspirate procedures; identify normal and abnormal cellular constituents.
  • Mark the most representative cells of any pathologic process and enter diagnoses for gynecologic and non‑gynecologic specimens.
  • Record daily workload, hours worked, and hours screened in compliance with NewYork State and Federal regulations.
  • Maintain quality‑control records, procedure manuals, and microscope equipment.
  • Prepare fine needle aspirations on slide, perform onsite fast stains to assess adequacy, and process cytology specimens.
  • Identify and preliminarily source Fluorescent In situ Hybridization (FISH) slides for pathologist review; solve staining and preparation problems; evaluate and implement new procedures.
  • Report relevant cytology procedure information/results following departmental reporting procedures.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality, attend meetings, and teach rotating students, residents, and fellows.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
  • Full license to practice as a Cytotechnologist in the State of NewYork, or eligibility for full licensure in NewYork.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Cytotechnology, or a Bachelor’s degree plus one year of cytology coursework at an accredited school.
  • Must obtain and maintain full Cytotechnologist licensure within six months of appointment if currently only eligible.
Compensation and Benefits

Starting hourly rate of $31.99 per hour with an additional geographic differential of $12.00 per hour, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
