Job summary

Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic is seeking a Cytotechnologist for a part-time role totaling 20 hours per week. The position involves day shifts (8 hours) on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with additional flexible hours within the pay period, located in Ann Arbor and Livonia.

The candidate will perform cytology specimen preparation and initial slide evaluation, ensure quality control, and work with Pathologists for final determinations.

Qualifications

  • Graduated from a school of cytotechnology accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation or equivalent.
  • Certified in cytotechnology by a certification agency approved by HHS (ASCP preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates proficiency in laboratory preparatory techniques to produce cytologic specimens, including smears and cell blocks.
  • Recognizes and advises on corrective actions for sub optimally processed/prepared specimens.
  • Collects, accessions, and prepares GYN, Non GYN, and FNA specimens.
  • Maintains quality control and maintenance records in the cytology lab under supervision.
  • Evaluates cytology slides microscopically for cancer cells or infectious organisms.
  • Identifies abnormal cells and presents findings to a Pathologist for final evaluation.
  • Maintains monthly cytology lab statistics.
  • Files and pulls slides for conferences and old case review.
  • Documents slide interpretation results for each gyn and non-gyn case examined.

Cytotechnologist performs all necessary laboratory procedures pertaining to accessioning, technical preparation of cytologic specimens and initial evaluation of prepared slides from all body sites.

Required Education
  • Have graduated from a school of cytotechnology accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation or equivalent.
  • Certified in cytotechnology by a certification agency approved by HHS (ASCP preferred).
Experience
  • 1-3 years cytology experience preferred.
Skills/Knowledge
  • Demonstrates a mastery of the theories, principles and techniques involved in the area of specialization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Participates in the maintenance of the monthly cytology lab statistics.
  • Files and/or pulls slides for slide conferences, old case review, etc.
  • Document slide interpretation results for each gyn and non-gyn cytology case examined or reviewed.
