Trinity Health Livonia is seeking a part-time Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist to join the Core Lab. The role involves processing and reporting lab results, maintaining quality control, and coordinating with nursing units. Evening shift approximately 6:30am-3pm and 20 hours per week are expected.

Required are a Baccalaureate in Medical Technology or MLS, or a B.S. with lab experience. MT/MLT/MLS certification is preferred; must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Qualifications

• Education: Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology or MLS; transcripts required at application time.
• MLS/MT degree not obtained? a bachelor’s in science with relevant lab experience may be considered.
• Certification/licensure: MT/MLT/MLS ASCP or NCLS preferred.

Responsabilités

• Record and/or enter laboratory computer results and advise supervisor of unusual results.
• Report stat and highly abnormal results promptly per policies.
• Compare current results with previous patient results and flag abnormalities.
• Perform quality control, calibrate and operate lab equipment as assigned.
• Notify appropriate personnel of unacceptable specimens or equipment issues.
• Prepare standards, reagents, and testing materials.
• Coordinate with nursing units or client offices regarding results and queries.

Required Qualifications

• May consider a bachelor’s degree in science with a combination of relevant work experience in a comparable laboratory setting.
• Proof of educational transcripts must be submitted at time of application.

Experience

• Relevant work experience in a medical laboratory is required if MLS/MT degree is not obtained.

Certification/Licensure

• Medical Technologist (MT)/Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) - ASCP, or NCLS certification preferred.

What you will do

• Records and/or enters laboratory computer results of tests performed and advises supervisor spurious, unusual or highly abnormal results before release of results for reporting.
• Reports results of tests ordered stat and highly abnormal or unexpected results in a timely manner and according to established policies and procedures.
• Compares test results with previous patient test results when indicated, calling attention of supervisor or pathologist to unusual fluctuations.
• Performs required quality control and equipment maintenance and calibrates and operates laboratory equipment used in performance of the tests pertinent to the section) to which assigned.
• Notifies appropriate personnel of problems such as unacceptable specimens, equipment malfunctions, and quality control aberrations, in accordance with department policy on procedure.
• Prepares standards, reagents, and other materials used in testing.
• Contacts nursing unit or client office personnel regarding results and for clarification of requests and other routine problems which may arise.
