Job summary

VA Medical Center Memphis is seeking a Cytopreparation Technician to support the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service by preparing clinical specimens for cytologic examination and assisting with daily lab operations.

The role requires experience in cytopreparation or related laboratory duties, knowledge of safe handling of infectious specimens, and basic equipment troubleshooting abilities. No professional license is required.

Responsibilities

• Receive, identify, accession, and document clinical specimens.
• Prepare specimens using centrifuging, smearing, cell-block preparation, staining, and cover-slipping techniques.
• Monitor slide and specimen preparation quality and correct preparation issues when necessary.
• Clean laboratory equipment and glassware, maintain records, and restock laboratory supplies.

Job description

Schedule:

Work schedules will be coordinated based on laboratory coverage needs at the VA Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Shifts may include 7:30 AM–4:00 PM, 3:30 PM–12:00 AM, or 11:30 PM–8:00 AM. Rotating weekends and Federal holiday coverage may be required.
