Job summary

UK Healthcare is seeking a Cytology Technical Specialist to serve as a Cytotechnologist/Pathologist extender in the Cytology Laboratory. Duties include accessioning, processing and gross dissection of small core biopsies and to assist ROSE procedures for FNA / Core Biopsy touch preps independently by using the Mikroscan system.

Staining and cover slipping of cytology specimen slides; maintaining supplies in laboratory; disposal of old specimens; adherence to HIPAA and compliance standards.

Qualifications

• BS degree required.
• Experience with ROSE procedures and Mikroscan system preferred.
• Ability to perform high complexity laboratory testing and maintain HIPAA compliance.

Responsibilities

• Perform cytology case accessioning, processing and gross dissection of core biopsies.
• Assist ROSE procedures for FNA/Core Biopsy touch preps using the Mikroscan system.
• Stain and coverslip slides; manage laboratory supplies and dispose of old specimens.

Physical Requirements 100% or more of the work is performed indoors. Requires standing for long periods of time, lifting of some heavy supplies and ability to concentrate despite distractions. Odors to include any disagreeable sensation, stimulation, or perception of the sense of smell. Potential for occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens and hazardous chemicals. Requires ability to work under pressure and stress.

Shift Day shift. Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm (40hrs/wk).

Staining and cover slipping of cytology specimen slides; maintaining supplies in laboratory; disposal of old specimens; identification and resolution of labeling/identification discrepancies. Additional duties include: Ensure and maintain the confidentiality of patient information and other business information in accordance with HIPAA and other compliance standards. Comply with established UK Healthcare Values and other established policies, including but not limited to compliance, quality, and safety. Previous ROSE procedures and Mikroscan system preferred. Knowledge of laboratory practices and procedures required. Must meet regulatory requirements to perform high complexity laboratory testing. Must be a team player with excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
