Job summary
Labcorp is seeking a Cytogenetics Technologist for our Durham, NC facility. The role involves cell culture, karyotype analysis, and FISH processing as part of the Cytogenetics team.
The position requires a Bachelor's in Cytogenetics or an MLS, plus experience in clinical cytogenetics; certification is preferred. The shift is Tuesday–Saturday, with potential overtime depending on business needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
- 1 year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience OR Bachelors in Cytogenetics OR an MLS degree.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine procedures: tissue culture, harvesting, slide making and banding, automated karyotyping, reagent preparation, and FISH processing.
- Determine specimen acceptability for testing according to criteria.
- Follow SOPs for routine and complex procedures.
- Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
- Make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
- Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls.
- Report accurate and timely test results to support patient care.
- Conduct and document preventive maintenance and quality control.
