Job summary

The position requires MT-trained B.S. degrees, 3 years of high complexity testing experience, and ASCP certification or equivalent, with strong reading and analytical skills and proficiency with common lab equipment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Biological, or Physical Science with 1 year MT training.
• 3 years of laboratory training or experience performing high complexity testing.
• Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or equivalent.
• Strong reading, writing, and analytical skills.
• Ability to operate general laboratory equipment including microscopes, analyzers, centrifuges, and pipettes.

Responsibilities

• Culture cells of various types using appropriate culture media and techniques.
• Harvest cell cultures using mitotic arrestants, cell releasing agents, and fixatives.
• Prepare microscopic slides using routine and banding techniques.
• Analyze chromosome preparations microscopically and prepare several karyotypes per case.
• Perform FISH on cytogenetic preparations and paraffin embedded tissues.
• Analyze FISH preparations microscopically, capture images and prepare reports.
