UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Cytogenetics professional to perform standard and specialized chromosomal analysis on specimens such as amniotic fluid, CVS, tissue, blood and bone marrow, using conventional cytogenetics and molecular techniques like FISH and array CGH. The role includes documenting findings and maintaining equipment.
Bachelor's degree in a related field is required; work experience cannot substitute.
Pay range: $15.00 - $24.40 / hour

Provides standard or specialized techniques for evaluation of both constitutional and somatic chromosome abnormalities on a variety of specimen types including, but not limited to, amniotic fluids, chorionic villus sampling (CVS), tissue, blood and/or bone marrow. Analysis may include traditional cytogenetic techniques as well as molecular cytogenetics by FISH (fluorescence in situ hybridization) and/or array CGH (array comparative genomic hybridization). Documents analysis, maintains records and performs routine maintenance and monitoring of equipment. Responds to the unique needs of all patients ages newborn through geriatric.
Bachelor's degree in a related field required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. None required.
