Army Non-Appropriated Funds (NAF) seeks a qualified individual to operate the Child and Youth Services Homework Center on an on-base installation. You will coordinate activities, assist participants in strengthening academic skills, and collaborate with parents and tutors to ensure the center is integrated into program settings.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, English communication skills, and the physical ability to lift 40 lbs.

  • 12 months of experience working in a related field.
  • BA/BS degree with emphasis on Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Child Development or related field.
  • Work experience directly related to the duties to be performed.
  • Ability to communicate in English (written and verbal).
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Lift/carry up to 40 lbs, walk, bend, stoop, stand.
  • Health and freedom from communicable disease.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the CYS Homework Center under the guidance of the facility director.
  • Provide assistance to participants to strengthen academic and learning skills.
  • Develop linkages with parents, School Liaison Officer, and tutors to integrate the center into program settings.
  • Plan and conduct activities based on observed needs of children/youth; model appropriate behaviors.
  • Train lower level employees and coordinate supplies, equipment, and facilities.

Job description

Duties
  • Incumbent performs duties under the verbal and written direction of the facility director. Assistance and guidance is normally available at all times. Work is reviewed in terms of results achieved IAW standards and procedures.
  • Responsible for the operation of the Child and Youth Services (CYS) Homework Center in accordance with applicable regulations. As part of the on ratio staff, provides assistance to participants in strengthening their academic and learning skills.
  • Develops linkages with parents, School Liaison Officer, other CYS Program Associates and volunteer tutors to ensure homework center is fully integrated into all applicable program settings.
  • Plans, coordinates, and conducts activities for program participants based on observed needs of individual children/youth. Models appropriate behaviors and techniques for working with children/youth.
  • Works with senior staff to provide instruction and training to lower level employees on working in the homework center. Provides input to CYS training plan based on observed training needs. Secures supplies, equipment, and facilities.

  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 to include a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.
  • The Crime Control Act must be successfully completed and maintained. A health assessment is also required.
  • Satisfactory performance, successful completion of training requirements (transition and/or annual) and demonstrated on the job competency is required.
  • Immunizations may be required as a condition of employment for the health and safety of those in the facility as determined by medical authority.
  • Already immune individuals (based on documented receipt of vaccine series or physician diagnosed illness), or those subject to religious exemption, or medical contraindication are exempt from this requirement.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of employment.

A Qualified Candidate Must Possess The Following
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Be able to communicate in English (both written and verbal).
  • Be 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
  • Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, walk, bend, and stoop and stand on a routine basis.
  • Possess and maintain health and freedom from communicable disease.
  • Possess and maintain a CDA/School-Age/Youth Credential (including Boys and Girls Clubs of America)/Army Youth Practicum
  • Possess 12 months of experience working in a related field
OR
  • 1-Possess BA/BS degree with a major emphasis on Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Child Development, Home Economics, Special Education or a related field.
  • 2- Possess work experience directly related to the duties to be preformed.
  • 3- Ability to communicate in English (both written and verbal).
  • 4- Be 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
  • 5- Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, walk, bend, and stoop and stand on a routine basis.
  • 6- Possess and maintain health and freedom from communicable disease.
Education

Note: Education must be directly related to the position to be filled. General Education courses do not count toward the credit total.

  • This job is open to candidates who currently reside on the Island of Oahu. (Military Spouse Preference (MSP) and Involuntarily Separated Military Preference (ISMP) Preference eligible candidates are included in the area of consideration.)

  • This job is part of a pay-banded system. Sunday premium pay for regularly scheduled employees and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander.
  • This NF-03 is entitled to 8.64% COLA (Island of Oahu). COLA is subject to change without notice.
