Job summary

Polk County Board of County Commissioners (Polk County BoCC) is seeking an IT Cybersecurity Specialist to join the Career Ladder Group in the Information Technology department. The role focuses on planning, implementing, tracking, and reporting cybersecurity initiatives, while gaining hands-on experience with tools used by the cybersecurity team.

The position emphasizes learning to maintain secure systems across technologies, with guidance from senior staff, and to uphold security best practices

Qualifications

• Associate degree in cybersecurity or related discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Certifications such as Security+, Network+, SSCP or higher per level; readiness to pursue related certifications as needed.
• Florida driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with configuring and executing vulnerability scans and remediation tracking.
• Support administration of security awareness tools and phishing simulations.
• Monitor security dashboards and investigate anomalous findings with escalation as needed.
• Develop and maintain security documentation, procedures, workflows, and incident reports.
• Establish secure baselines for new systems, hardware, and applications.
