Job summary

Howmet Aerospace is seeking a Cybersecurity Intern for Summer 2027 in Pittsburgh, PA. You will join the Corporate Information Security team, tackling real-world challenges during a 12-week program and working with industry changemakers.

The internship focuses on governance, risk, and security operations, with exposure to DLP, VM, investigations, awareness, and incident response. Hybrid schedule with housing stipend offered.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s degree program in IT, CS, or Cybersecurity with expected graduation Fall 2027 or Spring 2028.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or equivalent.
• Demonstrated internship, work, research, or extracurricular participation.

Responsibilities

• Identify, assess, and mitigate cybersecurity risks.
• Develop cybersecurity policies and standards.
• Assist with risk assessments and documentation, producing reports and dashboards.
• Review security controls and evidence.
• Support compliance activities and audit readiness.
• Align framework standards (NIST, CMMC, ISO 27001).
• Identify gaps and track remediation.
• Translate cybersecurity requirements into business terms and collaborate with the team.

Your education is just the beginning - you'll become an active member of our Corporate Information Security team located in Pittsburgh, PA . During our 12-week internship program, you'll tackle real-world challenges through impactful assignments, and work alongside our industry changemakers.

The Cybersecurity Intern will focus primarily on Policy, Risk and Governance, while gaining experience in Cyber Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Cyber investigations, Vulnerability Management (VM), Security Awareness, and Cyber Incident Response. The intern will receive a well-rounded cybersecurity experience, gaining exposure to both the governance and risk functions, and the technical security operations that support the organization's security posture.

A Day in the Life at Howmet...

• Support efforts to identify, assess, and mitigate cybersecurity risks
• Develop cybersecurity policies and standards
• Assist with risk assessments and risk documentation, developing reports, dashboards/insights that support risk-informed decision-making
• Review security controls and control evidence
• Work on compliance activities and audit readiness
• Framework alignment, particularly NIST, CMMC, and ISO 27001
• Identify and track gaps/remediation
• Understand how governance translates technical cybersecurity requirements into business expectations
• Interact with the other members of the Howmet Corporate Information Security team and learn the roles/responsibilities of all the team members

Your Education, Skills, and Experience:

• Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's degree program in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Cybersecurity with an expected graduation date in Fall 2027 or Spring 2028.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or equivalent
• Demonstrated internship, work, research, or extracurricular participation
• Involved with at least 1 extracurricular activity
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Interns must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

• Previous internship in Information Technology with a global employer
• Project experience with security tools or procedures
• Ability to manage projects and working within team in a fast-paced environment
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
