Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking a Cyber Threat Intelligence Analyst for the SC CIC to gather, analyze, and disseminate cyber threat information. This role collaborates with government agencies, private partners, and other stakeholders to prevent, detect, and mitigate cyberattacks across the state.

The position requires strong analytical skills, advanced security knowledge, and the ability to translate complex threat data into actionable guidance for diverse audiences.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology systems or related field with information security experience
  • Advanced knowledge of application, hosted service, and cloud security principles
  • Knowledge of system and network security for common operating systems and LANs
  • Strong analytical and communication skills with ability to relay cybersecurity best practices
  • Ability to provide technical analyses of cybersecurity infrastructure vulnerabilities
  • Ability to provide counsel for handling classified and sensitive information

General Responsibility

Serve as a Cyber Threat Intelligence Analyst for South Carolina Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity (SC CIC). This position will work closely with government agencies, private sector partners, and other stakeholders to identify and address cybersecurity challenges. Gather, analyze, and disseminate information about cyber threats to prevent, detect, and mitigate cyberattacks.

Specific Duties
  • Collect, monitor, and analyze cyber threat data from open-source intelligence (OSINT), threat feeds, and other sources to identify patterns, techniques being used, and potential threats. Provide insight and context to enhance the team's efforts to improve the security posture throughout the state.
  • Identify vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure systems, applications, and networks to assess potential attack vectors.
  • Maintain working knowledge of latest attack techniques, tactics, and procedures (TTPs) relevant to SC critical infrastructure. Ensure that SC CIC analysts are briefed on current threats in a digestible, timely, and efficient manner.
  • Develop threat intelligence reports, briefings, and alerts to disseminate to key stakeholders including participants and task force partners, enabling proactive decision-making and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Create content for SC CIC monthly webinar and hosted events to build information security community awareness of emerging cybersecurity threats with appropriate recommendations for countermeasures.
  • Meet with Critical Infrastructure security teams on a routine basis to gain an understanding of their intelligence needs.
  • A bachelor's degree in information technology systems, computer science, or related field and experience in information technology to include experience in a security-focused role. Relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Advanced technical knowledge of application, hosted service, and cloud security principles.
  • Knowledge of system and network security for common operating systems and local area networks.
  • Knowledge of information risk concepts and principles, with the ability to relate them to business needs and security controls.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand and relay basic cybersecurity best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to establish strong, positive working relationships with government and private officials is essential.
  • Ability to identify and describe problems as well as coordinate resolution with various organizational elements.
  • Ability to provide technical analyses of cybersecurity infrastructure vulnerabilities.
  • Ability to provide counsel for the handling of classified, law enforcement sensitive, and industry proprietary information.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance on complex projects.
  • Involves working with sensitive information concerning critical infrastructure organizations around the state.
  • Must be available 24 /7 for emergency incident response during scheduled on-call rotations.
