Job summary

Bowhead is seeking a Systems Security Engineer (Cybersecurity/Quarantine Release) in Dahlgren, VA. The candidate will perform vulnerability scanning, network hardening, and risk assessments across DoD security environments.

Ideal: 3–5 years of relevant experience, DoD 8570 IAT II certification, proficiency with ACAS/HBSS, and strong networking knowledge. This on-site role requires U.S. citizenship and a Top Secret clearance.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of relevant experience required
• Knowledge of computer networking concepts and protocols, and network security methodologies
• DoD 8570 Information Assurance Technical Level II certification requirements at time of hire
• Experience with vulnerability scanning and risk assessments
• Familiarity with defense-in-depth and zero-trust concepts
• Knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and directory services
• Knowledge of application vulnerabilities
• Knowledge of system administration and hardening (Unix/Linux, IOS, Android, Windows)

Responsibilities

• Conduct vulnerability scans and recognize vulnerabilities in security systems
• Use DoD network analysis tools to identify vulnerabilities (e.g., ACAS, HBSS)
• Conduct application vulnerability assessments
• Identify systemic security issues based on analysis of vulnerability and configuration data
• Share insights about threat environment to improve risk management posture
• Apply cybersecurity and privacy principles to organizational requirements (confidentiality, integrity, availability, authentication, non-repudiation)
• Troubleshoot and diagnose cyber defense infrastructure anomalies and work through resolution
• Perform impact/risk assessments
• Develop insights about threat environment context
• Identify and implement host/network access controls and VPN encryption
• Protect a network against malware (NIPS, anti-malware)
• Other duties as assigned
