Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks interns pursuing degrees in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or cybersecurity-related fields to help advance our nation’s cyber capabilities and improve task efficiency for government sponsors.

You’ll be mentored by top experts and collaborate with full-time staff and fellow interns to design and implement applications that address sponsor challenges, while exploring new research areas and sharing findings with leadership.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD program in CS, Engineering, Mathematics, or cybersecurity-related field
  • Experience developing software using Java/Kotlin, Python, C#, Rust, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, C/C++, or equivalent
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, teamwork and communication abilities
  • Maintain a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Eligibility to obtain Interim Secret clearance by start date with potential for Top Secret; US citizenship required

Responsibilities

  • Be mentored by experts to learn cyber capabilities development
  • Collaborate with staff and interns to design and implement applications for sponsor problems
  • Develop novel approaches to cybersecurity in operational environments
  • Explore promising research areas and apply ideas to current problems
  • Share approaches with team members, management, and government decision makers
