Job summary

Super Steel in Mequon, WI is seeking a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and Lead Weld Instructor to join our team. You will perform hands-on visual inspection while coaching and mentoring welders across our heavy structural fabrication operation.

Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with AWS D1.1 and ASME IX, overseeing welder qualification and welding tests, and developing welding procedures and best practices in a culture of quality and safety.

Qualifications

• Must hold AWS CWI certification and apply welding inspection principles.
• Experience with AWS D1.1 and ASME Section IX.
• Hands-on welding/inspection in fabrication or manufacturing.
• Excellent communication and ability to teach others.

Responsibilities

• Perform visual inspection of welded fabrications and verify compliance with specifications and codes.
• Support welding quality assurance activities throughout the fabrication process.
• Interpret and apply AWS D1.1 and ASME Section IX requirements.
• Oversee welder qualification and weld testing.
• Train, coach, and mentor welders on proper welding techniques, quality expectations, and code requirements.
• Collaborate with production and quality teams to address welding issues.
• Help develop and reinforce welding procedures, standards, and best practices.

Super Steel is seeking an experienced Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) / Lead Weld Instructor to join our team in Mequon, WI.

This is a unique opportunity for a CWI who enjoys both welding quality and developing people. In this role, you will combine hands-on visual inspection and code compliance responsibilities with the opportunity to train, coach, and mentor welders throughout our heavy structural fabrication operation.

You will serve as a key resource for welding quality, helping ensure our work meets customer and applicable code requirements while developing the skills and capabilities of our welding workforce.

What You'll Do

• Perform visual inspection of welded fabrications and verify compliance with applicable specifications and codes
• Support welding quality assurance activities throughout the fabrication process
• Interpret and apply AWS D1.1 and ASME Section IX requirements
• Support and oversee welder qualification and weld testing
• Train, coach, and mentor welders on proper welding techniques, quality expectations, and code requirements
• Work closely with production and quality teams to identify and address welding issues
• Help develop and reinforce welding procedures, standards, and best practices
• Serve as a technical resource for welders, supervisors, and other members of the manufacturing team
• Promote a strong culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement

What We're Looking For

• Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
• Strong knowledge of welding inspection principles and applicable welding codes
• Experience with AWS D1.1 and/or ASME Section IX
• Hands-on welding and/or welding inspection experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability and desire to teach, coach, and mentor others
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

Additional NDT certifications such as MT, PT, or UT are not required, but are highly valued. Continuing education and additional certifications will be considered when determining compensation.
