Job summary

Construction Material Testing in Sugar Land, TX is seeking a Certified Welding Inspector II to inspect structural steel and welded assemblies, and to sign off on reports for engineers and building officials.

You will witness welder qualification tests, review WPS/PQR, direct NDT, and ensure compliance with AWS D1.1 and related codes (D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX, API 1104). Growth from CWI II to higher certification is available, with travel to project sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) with 2+ years inspecting under it.
• Working command of AWS D1.1 and at least one of D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX, or API 1104.
• ICC structural steel and bolting special inspector certification preferred (sponsored).
• Able to defend a rejection to a fabricator and document it for retest closure.

Responsibilities

• Perform and sign visual weld inspection with accept/reject authority to the governing code.
• Review WPS, PQR, and welder qualification records; witness qualification tests.
• Direct and interpret nondestructive testing; write repair instructions.
• Inspect fabrication shops and field erection; sign inspection reports for engineers and officials.
