Job summary

Construction Material Testing in Sugar Land, TX, seeks a Certified Welding Inspector II to hold accept/reject authority on structural steel and welded assemblies, inspecting to AWS D1.1 and related codes.

You will review WPS/PQR, witness welder qualifications, direct NDT, and sign inspection reports relied on by engineers and building officials. Travel to project sites as needed; pay from $38–$52/hour; full-time on-site role.

Qualifications

• Current AWS CWI with 2+ years inspecting under it.
• Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 and at least one of D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX, or API 1104.
• ICC structural steel and bolting certification preferred (sponsored if not held).
• Ability to defend a rejection to a fabricator and document it for retest.

Responsibilities

• Perform and sign visual weld inspection with accept/reject authority to the governing code.
• Review WPS, PQR, and welder qualification records.
• Witness welder performance qualification tests.
• Direct and interpret nondestructive testing (NDT).
• Disposition indications and write repair instructions.
