Job summary

LCMC Health in New Orleans, LA seeks an experienced Cardiovascular Operating Room Surgical Technologist to support complex cardiovascular procedures. You will ensure the team has sterile instruments, equipment, and expertise for open heart, thoracic, and vascular surgeries.

The role requires an accredited Surgical Technologist program graduate, CST certification, BLS, and 3+ years in surgical tech with CVOR experience; ACLS is preferred. A sign-on bonus is available.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by NBSTSA.
• Current BLS certification.
• Minimum 3 years experience as Surgical Technologist, with at least 1 year in CVOR.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the CVOR with instruments, supplies, and equipment before procedures.
• Assist cardiovascular surgeons during procedures by providing appropriate instruments.
• Maintain a sterile field and adhere to aseptic techniques.
• Collaborate with RNs, perfusionists, and anesthesia team for patient care.
• Set up and troubleshoot CV equipment, including heart-lung machines and vascular graft materials.
• Perform instrument counts and handle specimens per hospital policy.
• Participate in post-procedure cleanup and instrument decontamination.
• Document procedures and instrument usage accurately.

As a Cardiovascular Operating Room Surgical Technologist, you’ll play an essential role in supporting complex cardiovascular procedures and ensuring the surgical team has the expertise, instruments, equipment, and sterile environment needed to provide exceptional patient care. This position is ideal for an experienced Surgical Technologist who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and brings advanced knowledge of open heart, thoracic, and vascular procedures .

• Prepare the CVOR with necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment prior to surgical procedures.
• Assist cardiovascular surgeons during procedures by anticipating needs and providing appropriate instruments.
• Maintain a sterile surgical field and follow proper aseptic techniques throughout procedures.
• Collaborate closely with RNs, perfusionists, anesthesiologists, and surgical team members to ensure safe and efficient patient care.
• Set up and troubleshoot specialized equipment, including heart-lung machines, endoscopic tools, and vascular graft materials.
• Perform instrument counts with the circulating nurse per hospital policy to ensure no retained items.
• Handle and care for surgical specimens appropriately.
• Participate in post-procedure cleanup, including decontamination and sterilization of instruments.
• Maintain accurate documentation of procedures and instrument usage as required.

The Must-Haves Minimum: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) Current BLS certification Minimum 3 years of experience as a Surgical Tech with at least 1 in CVOR unit Preferred: Current ACLS certification
