Job summary

LCMC Health in Louisiana is seeking a skilled Cardiovascular Operating Room Surgical Technologist to support complex heart procedures. You will ensure sterile technique, prepare CVOR instruments, and provide essential equipment and supplies to the surgical team.

This role requires CST certification, BLS, and CVOR experience; ACLS preferred. You will collaborate with RNs, perfusionists, anesthesiologists, and surgeons to deliver safe, high-quality patient care from setup to post-procedure

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - NBSTSA.
• Current BLS certification.
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Surgical Tech with at least 1 in CVOR unit.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the CVOR with necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment prior to surgical procedures.
• Assist cardiovascular surgeons during procedures by anticipating needs and providing appropriate instruments.
• Maintain a sterile surgical field and follow proper aseptic techniques throughout procedures.
• Collaborate closely with RNs, perfusionists, anesthesiologists, and surgical team members to ensure safe and efficient patient care.
• Set up and troubleshoot specialized equipment, including heart-lung machines, endoscopic tools, and vascular graft materials.
• Perform instrument counts with the circulating nurse per hospital policy to ensure no retained items.
• Handle and care for surgical specimens appropriately.
• Participate in post-procedure cleanup, including decontamination and sterilization of instruments.
• Maintain accurate documentation of procedures and instrument usage as required.

Education

Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program

The Must-Haves

Minimum

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
• Current BLS certification
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Surgical Tech with at least 1 in CVOR unit

Preferred

• Current ACLS certification
