Job summary

100 LCMC Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support the operating room team in a safe, sterile environment. You will assist the circulating nurse and prepare the sterile field. You will apply aseptic principles, prepare instruments, count supplies, and report any breaks in technique.

Requirements: accredited program, CST or NCCT, and current BLS. Based at West Jefferson Medical Center in Louisiana, this role offers a collaborative culture and the chance to contribute to patient care

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - NBSTSA or NCCT.
• Current BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist the circulating nurse with patient positioning, confirmation/preparation of operative site, care of operative specimens and room turnover.
• Establish and maintain an organized sterile field.
• Provide scrub assistance during procedures with knowledge of anatomy, principles, supplies and skills.
• Demonstrate aseptic technique and select proper sterilization methods for instruments/equipment; report unsafe practices to the circulating nurse.
• Prepare the operating room by opening sterile supplies, instruments and sutures per procedure and surgeon preference card.
• Follow policies for scrubbing, gowning, gloving, back table setup, draping and counting with the circulating nurse.

Responsibilities

• Assist the circulating nurse with patient positioning, confirmation/preparation of operative site, care of operative specimens and room turnover.
• Establish and maintain an organized sterile field.
• Provide scrub assistance during procedures which reflect awareness of anatomy, necessary principles, skills, supplies, and adequate knowledge base.
• Demonstrate the application of the principles of asepsis and select proper sterilization method of instruments/equipment prior to procedures and verify sterile instruments taking corrective action when any unsafe practice, conditions or breaks in aseptic technique occur and report information to the circulating nurse.
• Prepare the operating room by opening sterile supplies, instruments, and sutures based on scheduled procedure and surgeon preference card.
• Follow policies for scrubbing, gowning, gloving, setting up back table, draping and counting with the circulating nurse.

The Must-Haves Minimum

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or National Certification for Competency Testing (NCCT)
• Current BLS certification
