Job summary

LCMC Health in New Orleans is seeking a dedicated Surgical Technologist to join our operating room team. You will help maintain a sterile field, prepare instruments, and support the surgeon to ensure safe, efficient procedures.

Ideal candidates are graduates of an accredited Surgical Technologist program, certified (CST) by NBSTSA or NCCT, and current in BLS. A sign-on bonus is available and work shifts are days at West Jefferson Medical Center and surrounding locations.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - NBSTSA or NCCT.
• Current BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist the circulating nurse with patient positioning, confirmation/preparation of operative site, care of operative specimens and room turnover.
• Establish and maintain an organized sterile field.
• Provide scrub assistance during procedures with knowledge of anatomy, supplies and techniques.
• Demonstrate asepsis principles and verify sterile instruments and report issues to the circulating nurse.
• Prepare the operating room by opening sterile supplies, instruments, and sutures based on schedule and surgeon preference.
• Follow policies for scrubbing, gowning, gloving, back table setup, draping and counting with the circulating nurse.

Education

Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program

Current BLS certification

Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - NBSTSA or NCCT

Responsibilities

• Assist the circulating nurse with patient positioning, confirmation/preparation of operative site, care of operative specimens and room turnover.
• Establish and maintain an organized sterile field.
• Provide scrub assistance during procedures which reflect awareness of anatomy, necessary principles, skills, supplies, and adequate knowledge base.
• Demonstrate the application of principles of asepsis and select proper sterilization method of instruments/equipment prior to procedures and verify sterile instruments taking corrective action when any unsafe practice, conditions or breaks in aseptic technique occur and report information to the circulating nurse.
• Prepare the operating room by opening sterile supplies, instruments, and sutures based on scheduled procedure and surgeon preference card.
• Follow policies for scrubbing, gowning, gloving, setting up back table, draping and counting with the circulating nurse.

Minimum Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or National Certification for Competency Testing (NCCT)
• Current BLS certification
