Job summary

Ryerson is seeking a Cut To Length (CTL) Operator in Elgin, IL. The role focuses on daily CTL machine operation, including machine set-up and potential CNC setup, to ensure quality part processing.

The candidate will inspect feedstock, calibrate measuring tools, perform part inspections, and assist with basic maintenance. Enrollment in a registered apprenticeship is part of onboarding, with competitive wage under the union contract.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of experience as a Cut to Length machine operator.
• Ability to navigate a computer to find information, enter information when prompted, and print as necessary.
• Successfully pass a skills-based assessment—evaluates reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Feedstock material inspection to ensure quality specifications.
• Calibration of measuring equipment and daily verification of tape measures.
• Part inspection to ensure quality specifications.
• Basic machine maintenance and assisting maintenance personnel during breakdowns.
• Train others on machines, work cell, or other business functions as required.
• Pulling and staging feedstock for production orders.
• All other duties as assigned or may change at any time.
