I. Job Profile

Job Title: Customs Compliance Specialist

Department: 1301 SALES DEPARTMENT

Direct Supervisor: OEM Sales Director

Direct Subordinates: N/A

II. Job Summary

Work on tariff classifications (Import and Export) and maintain HTS product code databases. Proactively monitor all daily activities with brokerage companies, manage Customs record keeping requirements, monitor regulatory and legislative changes, and maintain import procedures manual. Take responsibility for ACE account.

III. Job Functions and Duties
  1. Work with tariff classifications (Import and Export) and maintain and update HTS product code databases, and other related information.
  2. Proactively monitor all daily activities with brokerage companies, manage Customs record keeping requirements, monitor regulatory and legislative changes, and maintain import procedures manual.
  3. Participate in team efforts to obtain proper tariff classification of products and guidance on use of materials regulated by OGA’s.
  4. Work with our Customs Compliance team on Customs inquiries, identify and resolve issues hindering customs clearance, including exams and PGA holds.
  5. Take responsibility for ACE account and related tasks.
  6. Review all material on hand to determine the right tariff classification, including but not limited to.
  7. Ensure the required documents for Sales/Finance/Purchasing departments and external audits are prepared and maintained.
  8. Collect and keep updated Customs’ Informed Compliance Publications.
  9. Advise sourcing and product development teams on best practices to save duties and increase compliance rate by sharing Customs information.
  10. Execute tariff classifications process for exports and verify compliance with EAR, ECCN, and RESTRICTED PARTY SCREENING demands.
  11. Review specifications sheets and other data to ensure correctness for HTS assignment.
  12. Assign tariff classifications to merchandise ready for import and export orders.
  13. Work with brokers on problem resolution related to filed entries and assist in preparing periodic reports.
  14. Responsible for all duty drawback, PSC, and refund tasks.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.
IV. Qualifications

Languages: English — ability to read, understand, and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and communicate effectively.

Experience:

  • Using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States and OGA regulations: 2+ years
  • International business including Import/Export rules: 2+ years
  • Applying Schedule B and ECCN requirements: 2+ years
  • Preferably own CBLE certification.

Education: Undergraduate degree required; Master’s preferred, ideally in International Logistics.

Physical & Other Requirements: Ability to walk/move around the plant, safety-first mindset, proficiency in MS Office, SharePoint, Skype, Teams, knowledge of Customs Compliance, and a US Customs Broker License.

V. Work Environment

Mainly office-based with occasional plant visits; may be exposed to extreme heat and noise. Safety gear required in plant areas.

VI. Key Performance Indicators

Safety, forecast accuracy, customer satisfaction, and data accuracy.
