Position Summary

The Customer Service / Warehouse Associate provides responsive service to walk-in, telephone, and account customers while supporting daily warehouse, inventory, receiving, and order-fulfillment activities. The position processes customer orders and payments, answers product and availability questions, pulls and stages materials, safely loads and unloads products, and helps maintain accurate inventory and an organized, safe facility. This role works closely with sales, operations, drivers, and other locations to meet customer commitments accurately and efficiently.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Customer Service and Sales Support
  • Greet customers professionally in person and by telephone and promptly determine their product, order, or service needs.
  • Provide accurate information about hardwood lumber, sheet goods, mouldings, flooring, sundry items, availability, lead times, and related services within the employee’s level of training.
  • Enter routine orders, prepare required documentation, collect and document payments, and route questions or exceptions to the appropriate salesperson or manager.
  • Support account managers by processing orders, communicating order status, researching product options, and helping customers when assigned sales personnel are unavailable.
  • Communicate customer concerns, shortages, damaged material, returns, pricing questions, and unresolved issues promptly to the appropriate manager or salesperson.
  • Follow up on staged or pending pickup orders and help maintain an orderly customer pickup area.
Warehouse, Order Fulfillment, and Inventory
  • Pull, verify, label, package, band, and stage customer orders using order documents and established handling methods.
  • Safely load customer vehicles and company or common-carrier trucks while protecting people, equipment, and material.
  • Receive and unload inbound material; compare product and quantities to receiving documents and report discrepancies or damage.
  • Identify stock by item number or SKU, species, grade, dimension, and product type as training permits; place material in assigned storage locations.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, banding equipment, and other authorized material-handling equipment in accordance with training and company safety rules.
  • Complete inventory moves, mapping, counts, adjustments, and related transactions in Epicor or other company systems as authorized.
  • Monitor stock locations and report shortages, misplaced items, damaged products, or inventory discrepancies promptly.
  • Restock customer service and warehouse areas and maintain clear aisles, organized racks, and safe product flow.
Safety, Quality, and Continuous Improvement
  • Follow all company safety rules, forklift requirements, PPE requirements, material-handling procedures, and emergency practices.
  • Inspect orders for accuracy and visible quality concerns before release, pickup, or shipment.
  • Use proper lifting techniques and request assistance or mechanical help when loads cannot be handled safely.
  • Maintain clean work areas free of debris, trip hazards, loose banding, and obstructions.
  • Report injuries, incidents, near misses, equipment concerns, property damage, and unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Participate in cross-training, inventory activities, continuous improvement efforts, and other duties assigned to support the Bend operation.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred, or a combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Customer service, warehouse, building-material, distribution, or order-processing experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with customers, coworkers, drivers, vendors, and management.
  • Ability to read and follow order documents, product labels, safety instructions, and written procedures.
  • Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and the ability to learn linear, square-foot, and board-foot calculations.
  • Ability to use a computer, telephone, email, Microsoft Office applications, and company order or inventory software; Epicor experience is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain company forklift authorization and safely operate assigned equipment.
  • Dependable attendance, attention to detail, sound judgment, teamwork, and the ability to manage changing priorities.

Required vision includes close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Work is performed in customer-service, warehouse, yard, loading, and office areas. The employee works around forklifts, trucks, stored lumber and sheet goods, moving equipment, dust, airborne particles, varying temperatures, and moderate to loud noise. Required PPE must be worn in designated areas. The position may require occasional overtime or schedule adjustments based on customer and operational needs.
