Customer Service Specialist I #Full Time

The 61st Street Service Corporation provides administrative and clinical support staff for ColumbiaDoctors. This position supports ColumbiaDoctors, one of the largest multi-specialty practices in the Northeast, comprising over 2,800 physicians, surgeons, dentists, and nurses across more than 240 specialties and subspecialties.

This position is primarily remote; candidates must reside in the Tri-State area.

Note: Occasional visits to the office may be required for training, meetings, or other business needs.

Job Summary:

The Customer Service Specialist I handles and resolves incoming calls from patients, insurance carriers, and physician offices. Responsibilities include collecting outstanding patient balances, establishing payment plans, and updating patient and guarantor information. The specialist must maintain professionalism and courtesy during all interactions.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Handle a high volume of calls efficiently.
  • Collect payments from patients or guarantors professionally and courteously.
  • Establish payment arrangements and document terms in the billing system.
  • Apply collected payments to appropriate services.
  • Address customer inquiries, disputes, and complaints, escalating as needed.
  • Gather and update insurance, demographic, and guarantor information; bill third-party payers as appropriate.
  • Document call summaries and follow-up steps accurately in the system.

Job Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least 6 months of experience in physician billing or third-party payer environments.
  • Understanding of insurance contracts, benefits, exclusions, claim forms, HMOs, PPOs, Medicare, Medicaid, and compliance regulations.
  • Ability to navigate the payer adjudication process.
  • Experience with Epic or other electronic billing systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Call center or claims experience preferred.
  • Experience in an academic healthcare setting preferred.

Hourly Rate Range: $22.78 - $30.77

Salary offers will be based on experience, skills, training, and education within this range.
