Mechanics Bank is currently searching for a Customer Service Representative to join our team. This role will be located on‑site and operates under general supervision, performing basic to moderately complex banking transactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Transaction Processing: Perform routine teller transactions including deposits, withdrawals, check cashing, payments, transfers, and mail or night drop transactions. Accept, verify, and process basic to complex customer transactions in accordance with established procedures and security guidelines. Assist customers with account reconciliation, statement copies, check orders, account closures, address changes, stop payments, debit‑card maintenance, and safe‑deposit box access.
- Customer Services & Sales: Deliver exemplary customer service both in person and over the phone, representing the bank in a courteous and professional manner. Respond to inquiries promptly, identify customer needs, and recommend products and services. Provide information on rates, charges, fees, and related details and educate customers on mobile and online banking.
- Cash Handling & Security: Maintain and balance a cash supply for each shift. Follow all cash handling policies, conduct cash balances at shift end, review transactions for red flags or fraud, and stay aware of criminal scams. Refer unresolved issues to branch management or the appropriate department.
- Administrative & Compliance Tasks: Gather data and process various reports and forms (e.g., Currency Transaction Reports, Reg CC, holds, overdraft) to ensure compliance with bank policies, BSA/AML, and regulatory programs. Assist with branch audit functions and complete compliance tasks by assigned due dates.
Travel
0–10% travel required.
Qualifications
- High School degree or GED required; additional experience may be considered in lieu.
- Minimum of 1 year banking experience with basic knowledge of deposit products and services.
- Minimum 1 year customer service and cash handling experience in a customer‑facing role.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and customer service orientation.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate as a team member.
- Capable of making decisions using available information.
- Basic knowledge of deposit products and services, and ability to understand customer loan requests and referral actions.
- Knowledge of applicable bank policies and procedures.

Compensation & Benefits
Pay Range: $20.00–$25.00 per hour, eligible for the Retail Incentive Plan.
