Job Overview
Mechanics Bank is currently searching for a Customer Service Representative to join our team. This role will be working on‑site under general supervision, completing basic to moderately complex banking transactions and delivering a high level of service through accurate transaction processing, inquiry resolution, and account maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Transaction Processing: Performs routine teller transactions, accepts, verifies, and processes basic to complex customer transactions (deposits, withdrawals, check cashing, payments, transfers, mail and night drop) while maintaining speed and accuracy. Assists customers with account reconciliation, statement copies, check orders, account closures, address changes, stop payments, debit card maintenance, and safe deposit box entrances. Supports other branches as needed.
- Customer Services & Sales: Provides exemplary customer service both in person and over the phone. Represents the bank professionally and identifies additional customer needs through proactive conversations. Defines product features and benefits, explains rates, fees, and restrictions, and educates customers on banking technology such as mobile and online banking.
- Cash Handling & Security: Maintains and balances a cash supply for transactions, adheres to all cash handling policies, and balances cash at the end of each shift. Reviews transactions for red flags and fraudulent items and remains vigilant about criminal scams. Refers unresolved issues to Branch Management and proper departments.
- Administrative & Compliance Tasks: Gathers data and processes reports and forms (e.g., Currency Transaction Reports, RegCC, holds, overdraft) to ensure compliance with bank policies and the Bank Secrecy Act/Anti‑Money Laundering programs. Assists with branch audit functions and completes required compliance by assigned due dates.
- Branch Operations: Assists in opening and closing the branch, following established security procedures.
Qualifications
- High School Degree or GED required; additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum 1 year experience in a banking environment with basic knowledge of bank deposit products and services.
- Minimum 1 year in customer service and cash handling in a customer‑facing role.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and customer‑service orientation.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively as a team member.
- Ability to make decisions using available information.
- Basic knowledge of bank deposit products and services; ability to understand customer loan requests and make appropriate referrals.
- Knowledge of applicable bank policies and procedures.
