The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's Division of Environmental Health aims to prevent and control environmental and occupational health risks through outreach, education, surveillance, and enforcement. The division employs approximately 1,000 staff covering areas such as environmental investigations, lead poisoning, injury prevention, occupational health, food safety, and more.
The Bureau of Food Safety and Community Sanitation (BFSCS) protects the public, including vulnerable populations, from hazards that may threaten health or safety. It is responsible for inspecting approximately 26,000 restaurants annually, along with various other facilities like school cafeterias, shelters, and senior centers.
Additional levels of experience may qualify for higher assignment levels. The position is also open to qualified persons with disabilities under the 55-a Program. NYC residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
$42,108.00 – $57,783.00 annually
