The division covers a broad range of subjects including environmental investigations, lead poisoning, injury prevention, occupational health, food safety, childcare, radiation control, recreational and drinking water quality, air quality, climate health, vector control, veterinary public health, and pest control.

The Bureau of Food Safety and Community Sanitation (BFSCS) protects the public, including vulnerable populations, from hazards related to food safety, smoking, and compliance in various facilities. BFSCS also investigates environmental health complaints from residents.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  1. Phase I (May 5 - June 30, 2025): Work in central office creating, editing, and updating records in NYC and NYS databases, and reconciling data for the Summer Feeding Program.
  2. Phase II (July 1 - September 30, 2025): Conduct inspections across boroughs, including Staten Island, and enter data into BFSCS database.
  3. Survey feeding sites, monitor food temperatures, and explain findings to operators.
  4. Perform mandated services to regulate feeding sites and ensure safety for children.
  5. Travel across boroughs for inspections and evaluate sites for vermin activity.
  6. Use handheld tablets for surveys and testing, and prepare reports.

Benefits include loan forgiveness, health insurance, pension, savings programs, wellness initiatives, and flexible work-from-home options. The NYC Health Department is committed to diversity and equal opportunity employment and provides accommodations for applicants with disabilities.

Minimum qualifications vary by level, requiring current enrollment in an accredited college or graduate program, with specific coursework for certain levels. The maximum tenure is 6 years, with employment conditions during academic sessions and vacations.
