Customer Service Agent: Import/Export is responsible for managing the administrative tasks involved in the international shipment of goods, including preparing necessary documentation, coordinating with customs authorities, tracking cargo movement, and ensuring compliance with import/export regulations to facilitate the smooth flow of goods across borders.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Prepare and review all import/export documentation such as bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, customs declarations, and certificates of origin to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.
- Coordinate with suppliers and customers to gather necessary documentation for shipments.
- Submit customs entries electronically and manage customs clearance processes.
- Monitor the movement of cargo throughout the shipping process, including tracking shipments from origin to destination using shipping line and customs systems.
- Communicate with freight forwarders, shipping lines, and customs brokers to resolve issues related to cargo delays or discrepancies.
- Arrange transportation for cargo, including booking shipping space, coordinating pick‑up and delivery arrangements with carriers, and managing inland freight.
- Calculate and manage shipping costs, including duties, taxes, and freight charges.
- Respond to inquiries from customers and suppliers regarding shipment status, documentation requirements, and customs clearance procedures.
- Resolve customer issues related to import/export processes in a timely manner.
- Stay updated on current import/export regulations and trade laws to ensure compliance with all relevant standards.
- Perform general clerical duties such as receiving orders, packing items, arranging shipping routes, invoicing, and monitoring order status.
- Ensure goods clear customs and reach their destination safely, calculating duties and taxes owed on shipments.
- Pay any shipping duties and taxes, and classify goods using the tariff coding system.
- Prepare import/export documentation to comply with customs laws.
Required Skills And Experience
- Ability to speak English.
- Accuracy in reviewing and managing complex paperwork.
- Proficiency in using computer systems to input and manage shipment data.
- Excellent verbal and written communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to identify and resolve issues related to customs clearance, shipping logistics, and documentation.
- Customer/Client satisfaction focus.
- Understanding of import/export regulations, customs procedures, and international trade terms.
- GED required.
- Completion of IATA lithium battery protocol course.
- Dynamic individual eager to progress.
- Dangerous goods knowledge preferred.
- ASM / GEMS experience an advantage, but not essential.
- Tenacious, detail‑oriented finisher.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Strong interpersonal and customer care skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize.
- Proven ability to work well under pressure.
- Ability to obtain and maintain security clearances required by local and federal authorities.
Work Environment
- Office‑based with interaction with various departments and external parties such as freight forwarders, customs brokers, and shipping lines.
- May require occasional work outside of standard business hours to accommodate international time zones and urgent shipments.
- Work may include evening and weekend shifts with challenging clients in a fast‑paced environment.
- Requires self‑management under high pressure and communication of excessive demands when necessary.
