Job summary

Haggen, Inc. in Auburn, WA seeks a Deli/Orients Express associate to deliver exceptional guest service and assist in daily deli operations. You will hire, train, and evaluate staff, schedule shifts, and coach teams to achieve sales excellence.

Role involves hands-on food preparation, merchandising, and maintaining freshness while ensuring safety and compliance. The position requires strong communication and a customer-focused attitude and may require weekend shifts.

Qualifications

• Passion for serving people and creating a guest focused work environment.
• 1-2 years of department operations experience or equivalent education to be knowledgeable of the nature of every position within the department.
• Math skills necessary, including recipes, gross margins, markup and percentages, reports, budgeting labor and sales, sales transactions and discounts.
• Work in wet environment and sanitize tools, pots/pans and utensils with cleaning chemicals.
• Ability to work around food ingredients, produce and spices without allergic reaction.
• Excellent communication with guests and associates, including phone and intercom
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Current state Food Handler's Permit may be required.

Responsibilities

• Provides friendly and engaged guest care at all times.
• Hires, trains, evaluates and communicates with all Service Deli and Orient Express associates including counseling and discipline when needed.
• Coaches and cross-trains associates for management development and future promotion.
• Writes daily plans and weekly work schedules.
• Model salesmanship by being present in the sales area and teaching up-sell and cross-sell techniques.
• Participates in all phases of food service production to ensure fresh deli products.
• Gains product knowledge and responds to guest questions about merchandise.
• Rotates merchandise and maintains displays to ensure freshness.
• Maintains records for damaged or spoiled merchandise per policy.
• Keeps updated on weekly specials and promotions that delight guests.
• Fosters a team oriented work environment.
• Manages loss prevention to ensure safe shopping and workplace.
• Store operates seven days a week with weekend/holiday shifts.
