Job summary

Mounds View Public Schools is seeking a Custodian B-Lead to oversee cleaning and maintenance in a school environment. The role runs Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, with a start date of September 25, 2026.

The starting pay is $25.00 per hour under the Custodial Labor Agreement, plus benefits including medical, dental, life and PTO. Responsibilities include supervising staff, coordinating tasks, and ensuring safe, clean facilities.

Qualifications

• Must possess at least a Second Class Boiler license.
• Ability to interact professionally with staff, students and the public.
• Knowledge of maintaining safe, clean and orderly school facilities.
• Familiarity with cleaning methods for floors, boards, carpets and furniture.
• Ability to learn custodial procedures and schedules.
• Capacity to supervise and train personnel.

Responsibilities

• Perform general cleaning: vacuum, scrub, wax, buff and sweep floors.
• Conduct minor maintenance on plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems without outside contractors.
• Secure building and test fire alarms.
• Set up equipment for events such as sports and concerts.
• Inspect safety of building, grounds and equipment.
• Coordinate tasks for regular custodial staff.
• Distribute supplies to kitchens, offices, teachers and departments.
• Perform minor repairs to chairs, desks and classroom furniture.
• Supervise student workers during cleaning tasks.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Must possess at least a Second Class Boiler license
• Ability to get along with district employees, and be courteous and helpful with students and general public.
• Knowledge of requirements of maintaining school buildings in a safe, clean and orderly condition.
• Knowledge of modern cleaning methods including basic methods of cleaning and preserving floors, black boards, carpets, furniture, walls and fixtures.
• Knowledge of cleaning equipment, tools, materials and supplies used in custodial work.
• Ability to learn custodial procedures, methods and schedules.
• Ability to maintain classrooms, offices and other school facilities in a clean, safe and secure condition.
• Ability to use common cleaning equipment and supplies safely and efficiently.
• Ability to move and arrange furniture and equipment for meetings and special events.
• Ability to observe and report safety hazards and need for maintenance and repair.
• Ability to perform minor maintenance and repair on furniture, equipment and facilities.
• Ability to confer with site administrators and supervisor regarding custodial needs, schedules and concerns.
• Knowledge of principles of administration, training, and supervision.
• Ability to assign and review the work of others.
• Ability to train, supervise, and evaluate personnel.

Responsibilities:

• Do general cleaning functions such as vacuum, scrub, wax, buff and sweep floors which may include mixing various cleaning and maintenance chemicals.
• Perform minor maintenance to keep schools and classroom operational such as repair plumbing, heating, ventilation and electrical equipment not requiring an outside contractor.
• Secures building and tests and resets fire alarms.
• Sets up equipment for sporting events, concerts and other meetings or special events.
• Checks boilers, gauges and pumps to ensure proper orientation, adds oil to pumps or turns off pumps as necessary. Refers operational problems to Supervisor of Maintenance.
• Opens or closes building as necessary.
• Inspects building, grounds and equipment for safety.
• Coordinates and assigns tasks to regular custodial staff.
• Distributes supplies for kitchen, office, teachers and departments.
• Perform minor repairs to chairs, desks, chair glides and other school equipment.
• Conducts minor ground maintenance including mowing, landscaping, snow removal, painting, raking or similar tasks.
• Supervises student workers in performance of general cleaning tasks.
• Sets up equipment for sporting events, concerts and other meetings or special events.
• Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:
Standing and walking 90% of the time. 50% of the time, involves: twisting, bending, stooping, squatting and climbing stairs. 25% of the time involves: crouching, pulling, pushing, climbing ladders, twisting while lifting, sweeping, extended reaches of 20 pounds overhead and lifting 50-100 pounds with mechanical assistance.
