Qualifications

• Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
• Must be physically able to operate vacuum cleaners, carpet shampooers, brooms, mops and related janitorial equipment.
• Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and exert up to 100 pounds occasionally.
• Requires climbing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and repetitive motions.
• Physical work is medium level; must follow safety guidelines and work under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, vacuum and scrub floors in classrooms, hallways and facilities.
• Clean restrooms, replenish supplies and maintain hygiene standards.
• Wash walls, windows and fixtures; polish surfaces as needed.
• Report damages or repairs to supervisor and coordinate light maintenance tasks.
• Unload and store supplies; assist with light facility upkeep and safety checks.

Pay Information: SG:51 ($15.00/hr.)

General Statement of Job

Under general supervision, performs a variety of general custodial and light groundskeeping work in the care and maintenance of assigned school buildings and facilities. Work involves sweeping, mopping and using vacuum cleaners to clean floors; washing walls, woodwork and fixtures; and policing buildings to empty trash receptacles and pick up debris, etc. Work involves the transferring of equipment, custodial, instrument repair and audiovisual.

Essential Job Functions

• Scrubs, dusts, sweeps, mops, vacuums, waxes and polishes floors in rooms, hallways and closets.
• Washes windows, woodwork, walls and other surfaces.
• Scrubs and cleans restroom fixtures.
• Replenishes tissue, towels, and soap in restrooms, kitchens and classroom facilities.
• Replaces light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
• Empties wastebaskets and other refuse receptacles.
• Locks and unlocks doors.
• Sorts and stores material for recycling programs.
• Makes minor repairs to furniture or facilities. Reports to supervisor damages or needed repairs requiring outside attention.
• Turns heating and air conditioning equipment on and off.
• Performs routine maintenance on heating and air conditioning systems.
• Unload and store supplies and deliveries.
• Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment.
• Some knowledge of procedures to operate heating and air conditioning equipment.
• Skill in the use of small equipment used in routine cleaning.
• Ability to maintain positive working relations.
• Ability to understand and follow simple oral or written directions.

Minimum Training and Experience

• Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license

Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

• Must be physically able to operate vacuum cleaners, carpet shampooers, brooms, mops, leaf blowers, etc.
• Must be phsically able to lift at least 50 pounds
• Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to push, pull, and carry or otherwise move objects.
• Requires climbing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping and repetitive motion. May require working on ladders.
• Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using janitorial equipment. Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as janitorial equipment.
• Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
• Requires the ability to talk and hear: (Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear.)
• Physical demand requirements are for medium work
