Greene County Public Schools in Stanardsville, Virginia is seeking a Substitute Custodian to perform semi-skilled cleaning and sanitizing duties across the school facilities. You will follow prescribed cleaning frequencies, operate cleaning equipment, and help maintain floors, restrooms, and common areas on a and around campus.

Starting immediately, the role is designated as essential personnel, requiring reliability during emergencies and adherence to safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited high school or GED.
• Must follow oral and written directions.
• Must establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, supervisor, administrators, and school-community members.
• Alternative qualifications as the Superintendent and School Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Cleans and refinishes hard and soft floor surfaces, moves furniture, and maintains the immediate perimeter of school grounds.
• Works under limited supervision by following a frequency of task assignment, using prescribed chemicals and machinery.
• Essential Personnel; report to work during emergency situations, snow and ice removal.
• Adheres to safety procedures and proper workplace ergonomics.
• Removes trash and recyclables, sweeps, dust mops, vacuums, sanitizes restrooms, cleans glass, cleans surfaces, restocks paper/soap dispensers.
• Responsible for proper care and storage of all cleaning equipment and materials.
• Responds to requests from school administrators and staff for maintenance, moving furniture, deliveries, and event setups.
• Follows Blood-Borne Pathogen procedures and responds to safety hazards.

• Follows Blood-Borne Pathogen procedures, responds to accidents or potential safety hazards which may require contact with chemical spills, blood, or other bodily fluids.


• Uses various pieces of power equipment to include scrubbers, rotary machines, pressure washers, drills, carpet extractors, vacuums, and specialty equipment.


• Opens and/or secures building; minimizes the risk of property damage and potential liability to the organization.


• Maintains building perimeter by sweeping walkways, mowing grass, removing weeds trimming shrubbery, and shoveling snow.


• Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS

Duties performed typically in schools throughout the division. Frequent walking, standing, lifting, up to approximately 50 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to approximately 75 pounds may be required. Work is typically performed walking or standing. The environment also exposes the employee to potentially hazardous substances. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise and hazards.
