University of Wisconsin La Crosse is seeking a Custodian for the Student Union to provide daily cleaning and support across university centers, ensuring safe, welcoming spaces for students, staff, and visitors.

The position requires lifting up to 50 pounds, operating cleaning equipment, and handling occasional schedule variations, with Friday–Tuesday 6am–2:30pm shifts; review starts August 13, 2026.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of basic safety precautions including use of caustic and toxic chemicals.

Responsibilities

  • Clean assigned facility areas daily using approved methods.
  • Remove trash and recycling; maintain clear walkways.
  • Monitor and secure entrances; report issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Assist with snow/ice removal and minor repairs as needed.
  • Move equipment for projects; lift up to 50 pounds when required.

We work closely with faculty, staff, community members, alumni and most importantly, students to provide quality programs and services which promote learning, leadership, involvement, service, and the celebration of diversity. The Division includes several departments: Campus Child Center, Counseling and Testing, Student Health Center, Intercollegiate Athletics, Recreational Sports, Residence Life, Student Life, University Centers, and the Vice Chancellor & Dean of Students office. The staff of the Division is truly student-centered and concerned about the holistic development of the student.This position is designed to assist with custodial coverage on the UW-La Crosse campus in the university centers. This position is responsible for daily cleaning including dusting, mopping, trash removal, and minor repair of equipment. In addition, this position will assist with moving projects which requires the ability to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis. Specific duties, areas of responsibility, work hours and schedule assigned on a position-by-position basis. This position works 1 st shift, Friday through Tuesday from 6am -2:30pm. Days off are Wednesday and Thursday. Weekend, nights and/or holiday hours may be required for some positions.Some positions may require a valid driver’s license and the certification to drive a state vehicle.Ability to perform duties within extreme temperature ranges for trash removal from the buildings and also snow and ice removal from entrances.The review of applications starts on August 13, 2026 .
